Dear Editor, It took me a long time to write this letter because I have been, and still am, a great admirer of Carl Lewis.

Dear Editor, I have been following the discussions on sexual violence and rape against women in the newspaper columns.

Dear Editor, In the Stabroek News Diaspora series co-ordinated by Ms Alicia Trotz a column appeared on December 31 captioned, ‘A constant teacher, a constant student: A collective tribute to Randall Mohan Butisingh,’ in which there were glaring omissions.

Dear Editor, I should like to highlight two issues that were discussed at the last sitting of the Regional Democratic Council Meeting of December 14, 2012.

Dear Editor, I have read Mr Ramkarran’s column of December 2, 2012 captioned ‘The PPP and the challenges ahead,’ and must acknowledge his bravery in making so public and seemingly honest an assessment of the PPP’s attitude to the political realities of Guyana and his attempts to suggest and recommend a path forward for his party’s resurrection. 

Dear Editor, With reference to Mr Vishnu Bisram’s letter in Tuesday’s issue of this newspaper (‘Guyana should have a Christmas market’), I would like to confirm that a Christmas Fair has already been taking place in the Rupununi for the past three years.

Dear Editor, I just read your Sunday editorial ‘2013 anniversaries‘ (thanks to Enrico Woolford who posted it on his Facebook page).

Dear Editor, I would like to thank the Government of Guyana, and the Courtney Benn Construction Company for doing the street bridge and the President’s College Road at Golden Grove Village on the East Coast of Demerara which has virtually transformed our village into a beautiful township once again.

Dear Editor, I attended the GFA/Banks Beer football finals on New Year’s Day and the event turned out to be a most memorable activity, especially in terms of the number of patrons, who literally completely filled the Bourda sward after the completion of the match, and which must have numbered among the highest congregations ever for a sporting event.

Dear Editor, Last Thursday evening the Woodside Choir, which is still celebrating their Jubilee Year, gave what is perhaps one of their best Christmas presentations, billed as ‘Night of the Father’s Love.‘

Dear Editor, I would like to commend the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) and Banks DIH for running off another tremendously successful end-of-year football competition.

Dear Editor, On the mall between Cummings Street and Light Street, but closer to Light Street, there stands a big tree with its lower inner trunk burnt out down to the root.

Dear Editor, In his end of the year briefing on the agriculture industry, Minister Ramsammy was reported to have stated that $500M of the $3B allocated for the Hope -Dochfour Canal Project (HCP) remains to be spent, and he was confident that this balance will be sufficient to complete the aggregate project within the specified extended time.

Dear Editor, The investment in an 1823 monument is under any normal circumstances supposed to embody the tragedy of the Demerara Slave rebellion of 1823.

Dear Editor, The banning of mercury exports by the US came into effect on January 1, 2013 (SN, Dec 2012).

Dear Editor, I must bring the attention of the Ministry of Education and the public to the problem of newly appointed teachers not being paid for five months.

Dear Editor, Happy New Year and a huge ‘Thank you‘ to Annan Boodram (‘Rapists do not prey on women and girls skimpily dressed, rather on those they know,’ Stabroek News, January 1) for unwittingly making the argument for modesty and decorum in dress.
