Letters to the Editor

Why can we not have different radio stations?

Dear Editor, I am accompanied by a radio all day long and get really mad when the reception is bad, nonsense is played for songs, programmes that do not interest me are aired or the station is down, as is the case now for a number of hours.

Sugar workers were not the vanguard

Dear Editor, The current group  of sugar workers have made and continue to make contributions to Guyana, but it does more harm than good when those contributions are misrepresented, especially given the fact that persons are generally au fait with the struggles and political intricacies of sugar from slavery to now.

Christmas luncheon for Guyanese seniors in New York

Dear Editor, I write to applaud Guyanese community leaders, the Indo-Caribbean Federation, District Leader Dr Taj Rajkumar, Vishnu Mahadeo and other advocates in Richmond Hill, Queens, for hosting a wonderful, entertainment-packed holiday luncheon for senior citizens last Saturday at Villa Russo catering hall in the heart of the community.

The proposed telecoms legislation should take account of predatory pricing by firms with dominant power

Dear Editor, Stabroek Business reported that an anonymous “source close to the telecommunications sector” has advised that government should take seriously the position that granting an operating licence to an illegal operator would amount to rewarding it for illegality (‘Gov’t should ponder GT&T concern over draft law – telecoms source’ SN, December 17).

Carl Greenidge is being denied his right to work

Dear Editor, The rights of citizens to live and work in the region is under threat, and this is evident in the Guyana Government and Caricom denying Carl Greenidge the right to express his opinion at a private function as to how the country of his birth is being managed, yet at the same time Caricom did not raise a voice when more than two hundred young men were executed by phantom squads.

Benschop did not object to being sanctioned for breach of the traffic laws

Dear Editor, Devanand Bhagwan’s letter captioned ‘When should we cross the line in defying the law’ (SN, December 18) takes a disingenuous look at the issue involving Mark Benschop and the consequence of his protest over that environmentally health hazardous garbage dumpsite situated in a particular community in Georgetown.
