Letters to the Editor

Letters on drawing competition contained serious inaccuracies

Dear Editor, With this belated reply I am fortunately able to answer both Jorge Bowen-Forbes’ first letter (Guyana Chronicle October 22), and his second (‘An enjoyable show with confusing results’ Stabroek News November 6), re “a recently judged competition” at the National Gallery – this being our 8th Biennial National Drawing Competition – his recent effort containing even more outrageous inaccuracies of ‘fact’ than the first.

Disappointed by unfair criticism

Dear Editor, I am disappointed at some of the unfair criticism made by Joey Jagan towards the Pegasus Hotel and am equally disheartened by the response from the hotel.

Both the PPP and PNC belong in the same boat

Dear Editor, If Hydar Ally (‘The PPP and PNC cannot be placed in the same category’ SN, November 2) had taken the time to pay attention to what I said in my letter, it is clear that I placed both the PNC and the PPP in the same category.

Nothing has changed

Dear Editor, The prevalence of compensation being offered after crimes have been committed has become totally unacceptable, and our laws are being flouted with impunity.

SN bypassed the main results of the MRVS report

Dear Editor,The first report on deforestation rates produced under Guyana’s MRVS presents the results of a series of assessments that concludes on a number of important areas including total forest cover within the agreed Marrakech Accord definition ranges, historical deforestation assessment across three time periods (1990-1999, 2000-2004, and 2005 to September 30, 2009), and deforestation assessment across various drivers of change, that together derive a total deforestation rate which allows for reference to be made, to an agreed level, between Guyana and Norway under the current agreement.

Pegasus service

Dear Editor, For many years now, I have frequented the Pegasus Hotel with my family, and in recent times the service has become more and more deplorable.

A distorted perception of accountability

Dear Editor, On reflection it appears that my letter to Stabroek News of November 4 needed some expansion of the organisation management principles to which it referred (‘Some important lessons for the delegation of authority and matching responsibility and accountability’).

Payment to rice farmers

Dear Editor, The October 2010 Guyana Review featured a question and answer interview with noted businessman Robert Badal, and it struck me that the exercise was obviously mutually self-serving.
