Dear Editor,
With reference to an article by Treiston Joseph in the Stabroek News sport section dated July 2, 2011 titled ‘Guyana sending 29 athletes to ALBA games in Venezuela,’ it was stated in the third paragraph that this would be the first time that our country would be sending athletes to the Olympic-style event.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is correct in its pronouncement that the bellyaching by the Indian cricket Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni over what he felt were flawed decisions made by Umpire Daryl Harper in the first Test of the current three-Test West Indies vs India series has deprived Mr Harper “of the opportunity to sign off as a Test umpire in a manner befitting someone who has served the game so well since making his debut back in 1994.”
Dear Editor,
I was pleased to read that a group of young people from Linden has decided to make a move to have some kind of political control over their development.
Dear Editor,
I would like to congratulate Mr Khurshid Sattaur and the Guyana Revenue Authority for upgrading the operations at the agency as well as making the agency more people friendly.
Dear Editor,
With regards to your news item on the cabinet reshuffle in Trinidad, the preliminary qualitative findings of a NACTA poll being conducted in Trinidad show overwhelming endorsement among voters of the Prime Minister’s cabinet reshuffle but they are not pleased with some of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s appointees.
Dear Editor,
In a letter to the Stabroek News published on April 27, 2011, Abu Bakr eruditely speculated that there is no statute of limitations, and that perpetrators of election rigging could yet find themselves facing the judges.
Dear Editor,
I would like to congratulate the GRA for putting measures in place towards the provision of a better service to the public and taking steps recently to ensure higher levels of transparency.
In the fullness of time, the PPP/C’s version of access to information legislation will come under careful scrutiny however urgency is not required at the moment as it is clear to all breathing individuals that no functioning system will be in place before the general elections.
Dear Editor,
The Gentlewomen’s Relief Association is a home that provides boarding and lodging for our elderly ladies in comfortable and pleasant surroundings.
While for once politics on the home front could hardly be described as lacking in diversion, our small-scale drama pales into insignificance in comparison to the one being played out to our west.
Dear Editor,
It seems as though I will be a regular writer to your newspaper, because as Buju Banton puts it, “Circumstances made me what I am…” I read in the papers today how a young life was snuffed out on the Linden to Lethem trail yesterday.
