Dear Editor,
On Tuesday, May 18, the Workers Committee formed by the Bauxite Company of Guyana Inc (BCGI) met with the Trade Union Recognition and Certification Board (TUR&CB), under the chairmanship of Justice Prem Persaud, and was advised of a pending survey at the site to determine if the workers still want the Guyana Bauxite and General Workers Union (GB&GWU) to represent them.
Dear Editor,
In previous correspondence to this newspaper last year, I had mentioned that Guyana radio is being mismanaged and the programmes left much to be desired.
Dear Editor,
Last week Monday morning greeted many of us with the news of a blazing furnace that devastated yet another building in the heart of Georgetown.
Dear Editor ,
I would like to ask our engineers a very simple question to do with the ramp that is stationary and permanently anchored, while at some point attached to it by hinges is a drawbridge – anchored to a pontoon.
Dear Editor,
Much to our relief, the seasonal rains have returned to Guyana, and very much so to the South Rupununi, as the pictures on pages 12 and 13 of the May 18 edition of Stabroek News show.
Dear Editor,
On February 8, 2010, I caused to be hand-delivered to the offices of the Minister of Legal Affairs, the Permanent Secretary to the said Ministry and the Registrar of Deeds a letter addressed to the said Minister dated February 3, 2010 dealing with aspects of the performance of the department known as the Deeds Registry.
Dear Editor,
I was delighted to read Mr Al Creighton’s reply (‘The rules which apply to international literary awards also apply to the Guyana Prize for Literature’ SN, April 30) to my letter of April 29 arguing that former judges of the Guyana Prize for Literature should not be allowed to submit entries.
Dear Editor,
This is what a staunch PPP supporter said to me when I asked him about flooded roads, roads washing away, stellings floating away, bridges buckling, wharves collapsing, kokers falling apart.
Dear Editor,
Anti-government activists, politicians and businessmen should learn from the Peter Ramsaroop fiasco on where to store important and confidential information.
Dear Editor,
Citizens of any country ought to feel proud and a part of any award that one of its fellow citizens receives, be it in sports, academics, politics, commerce, etc.
The ‘global economic crisis’ was the top buzz phrase for most of last year and only began to be overtaken somewhat by ‘climate change’ towards the end of the year, when some economies began to turn around and it was clear that despite the global predicament of a warming planet there would be no clear consensus at the United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Copenhagen in December – if ever there is total agreement; but that’s another story.
Dear Editor,
It seemed wise for me to set aside two drafts of a letter to the editor on the Supenaam (Essequibo) Stelling as the news became available to me.
Dear Editor,
A hearty thanks to all the teams for their performances in the recent ICC Twenty/20 competition, and congratulations to England on their well-deserved win.
Dear Editor,
On Friday last, I attended the ceremony honouring President Jagdeo for his UN award, and I must add my congrats to the President and add that the push he’s on for the preservation of our forests and the low carbon initiatives are all good efforts and should be praised, and I sincerely hope that these initiatives reap great benefits for the citizens of Guyana.
