Sophia man stabbed

A Sophia resident is in a serious condition at the Georgetown Hospital after being stabbed early yesterday morning by the reputed husband of a woman he took to his home.

Injured is Gary Verbeke, 36, of `B’ Field Sophia.

Reports are that around 1 am, the two were gong to Verbeke’s home after attending a wedding. The woman’s reputed husband who also lives in the area was reportedly waiting at the man’s gate and as they arrived he pounced on them. An argument developed between the men during which the woman’s reputed husband, who resides overseas but sometimes stays in Sophia, pulled out a knife and stabbed Verbeke in the chest, lower abdomen and back. The injured man was picked up and rushed to the hospital with a piece of the knife stuck in his side.
