Afro Americans should vote for Obama

Dear Editor,

Black Americans should be pushed to vote for Barack Obama by these stirring words “Hands that once picked cotton can now pick a President” – the Reverend Jesse Jackson, US Presidential candidate 1984.

Generally, Americans should stop being doubtful as to whether a black candidate could win or should become president of the USA, and vote for Barrack Obama with the same sentiment as they do for white candidates. This would reflect their racial unity, social and political maturity and most of all, their love. Black Americans have also been in the White House, so a black president should not be anything strange, they are all Americans.

Obviously this would break the white political monopoly, a positive change in the voting tendency. Other countries might follow this step. The statue of liberty would surely smile and nod in appreciation of seeing a black president in the White House – at long last.

Yours faithfully,

George Carrington
