Pedal cyclist killed

A female pedal cyclist died after being hit by a minibus at 50 Village, Corentyne on Tuesday while crossing the road.

Shanta Bishan, 35 of No.46 Village was pronounced dead on arrival at the New Amsterdam hospital. She was in the company of another female pedal cyclist when the accident occurred. According to police reports both women were attempting to cross the road when Bishan was struck. The other woman managed to cross safely.

Police said that investigations so far have revealed that the minibus was proceeding west on the southern side of the road when Bishan and the other woman attempted to cross.

The driver of the minibus is in custody assisting with the investigations.
