Slaying at Bartica intended to cause fear – PPP

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) deplores the brutal slaying of 12 persons at Bartica on Sunday evening and urges citizens to support the security forces’ efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In a press release the party said as in Lusignan, “this latest cowardly assault was intended to engender terror and fear in our society.”

It said that the nation’s security forces have yet again come under attack and the murder of three police officers follows closely on the heels of an ambush of a Guyana Defence Force soldier and indicates that the “killers are targeting agents of the law.”

The PPP said citizens must see this as an attack on all peace loving and democratic persons and as such the nation must give its full support to the security forces and efforts to apprehend and bring to justice the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the party extends condolences to the people of Bartica, the police force and the relatives and friends of the 12 deceased.
