Assiduous efforts are being made to ensure that all residents of Mahdia, including those at Campbelltown, receive potable water through their taps by next year, Minister Robeson Benn told members of the National Assembly on Monday.

Minister Benn, who is now responsible for housing and water, informed the National Assembly that some residents are already receiving potable water through their taps.

He said that there has been a lot of wastage of the water by residents and this affects the water pressure, preventing all households from receiving water.

Consequently, residents who live on top of the hill, including those at Campbelltown, do not receive water as they should.
The Minister said that works to adequately address this problem have been plotted out.  Benn said that the pipelines to the houses at the lower levels will be repaired and that valves will be placed on the pipelines which draw water from the Salbora creek.

All this, he said, will be done to ensure that there is a reduction in the water wasted by the residents.

Benn said that all this is expected to be completed by February 2009, and when all is completed the residents of Campbelltown and other communities on the hill will receive potable water through their taps.

This answer was given after the AFC MPs had asked about the supply of potable water to this community.
