Dear Editor,

In reference to the SN letter on October 13 `I also had a bad employment experience with Dr Jagan’ by Antonio Vargas, a dentist who was employed and eventually fired from my office for gross incompetence and poor dentistry, all I have to say in rebuttal to his letter of lies and slander is that anyone with the least interest in what he had to say, should contact anyone associated with the dental delivery system in Bartica (where he was employed after being fired from my office). His gross misconduct as a dentist in Bartica resulted in his dismissal and his return to Colombia. That is the record as it stands.

As regards the High Court decision against the Dental Council, I would like to comment on this gross miscarriage of justice. First of all, how can a decision be made when there was no legal representation on behalf of the Dental Council? Isn’t it strange that the government of Guyana should have provided legal representation but gave none? And added to that, isn’t it strange that the attorney representing the dentist against the dental council is Mr Nandlall, a government MP? Isn’t it strange that Dr Navas signed a contract with the Government of Guyana in August 2005 while he had a binding contract with me until June 2006 and left my office without telling anyone anything (leaving his patients unattended while I was recovering from a serious leg injury?) Isn’t it strange that Minister Ramsammy knew of this High Court procedure and never did a thing to help the dental council so that today, in reality, the Dental Council does not even exist? Lastly, could I have accomplished, after compromising my profession of Dentistry the way Dr Navas did, the same result in Colombia? The answer is a clear no and it’s a sad day for justice in Guyana when the High Court found against the Guyana Dental Council.
