Water woes in Strathspey

Dear Editor,
It has been over 10 weeks now since the villages of Strathspey, Bladenhall & Vigilance on the East Coast of Demerara have been without a regular supply of water. The situation is not getting any better and as such the residents are finding it extremely difficult to cope.

Many residents are forced to buy water from private trucks or fetch water on bicycles after work from nearby villages as the only solution to this crisis.

Whenever the water comes through the mains it flows for a very short period and at very low pressure. Residents who have water pumps would turn on their pumps and as such cause severe low pressure in the maina resulting in a shortage to many residents.

Numerous calls were made to GWI about this water crisis but up to now nothing has been done, only promises from those in authority.

Someone high in authority from GWI needs to address this situation and tell the residents what really is going on and how much longer they must wait for the normal supply of water to be restored.
Yours faithfully,
B. Singh
