Dear Editor,
I wish to join with the rest of the Guyanese community in expressing my profound sadness on the passing of David de Caires. David would be remembered as a true friend of the free press, and his advocacy role for freedom of expression is known way beyond the shores of Guyana. He also deserved credit for the role he and the newspaper he founded, Stabroek News, played in the restoration of democracy in Guyana.

I wish to extend my sympathy to his wife Doreen, his family and the entire staff of the Stabroek News on the passing of David. He will be missed by all Guyanese, especially those in the media fraternity.
