A 44-year-old man who allegedly robbed another at knifepoint of gold jewellery, cash and other items at Stabroek Market was granted $200,000 bail when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Derick Franklin of 41 Blairmont, Mahaica pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery under arms when it was read to him by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.

It is alleged that on February 6 at Stabroek Market Franklin held Gordon Weeks at knifepoint and robbed him of a gold chain, a quantity of cash and several other items together valued $85,000.

Franklin, who did not have an attorney, made an application for bail and the prosecution did not object.

Magistrate Octive-Hamilton granted bail in the sum of $200,000. Franklin has to return to court on March 27.
