A 39 year-old mother of one was on Friday placed on $25,000 bail when she appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer to the charge of assault.

It is alleged that on June 29 at Georgetown, Kamlawattie Ragobeer of 265 Third Street Grove East Bank Demerara assaulted Dominique Macklinger so as to cause him actual bodily harm.

The grocery store owner pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to her by the Acting Chief Magistrate.

Attorney-at-Law Mohamed Zafar who represented the defendant made an application that reasonable bail be granted his client on the grounds that she poses no risk of flight, has a fixed place of abode, has no antecedents and has been cooperating with the police in their investigations.

Police Corporal Munilall Seetaram objected to the bail application made by the Attorney on the grounds that the virtual complainant (VC) who is the defendant’s nephew, is still hospitalised and the extent of his injuries are yet to be determined.

Ragobeer was however subsequently granted $25,000 bail and ordered to return to court on August 14.
