Venton Beckles, a miner of Grand Sandcliff Hilltop, Soesdyke, was yesterday placed on $100,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty to unlawfully assaulting Devon Lorde.

The 25-year-old defendant appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus where the charge was read to him.

It is alleged that on May 5, at Hadfield Street, Georgetown, the defendant and the virtual complainant who are known to each other, had an argument. The defendant reportedly left and returned armed with a Rambo knife, which he allegedly used to assault Lorde.

Though the prosecution objected to bail due to the seriousness of the offence and the virtual complainant being injured, it was granted. Chief Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus also placed the man on a bond to keep the peace or face three weeks in prison. Specifically, he was ordered to stay away from the virtual complainant.

The case was adjourned to May 22.
