Stabroek square vendor badly chopped

A city vendor was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in a serious condition last night following a gruesome cutlass attack.

Police transported a badly wounded Hosea Hopkinson to the hospital shortly after another man confronted him at Stabroek market square and unleashed a brutal cutlass attack. The assailant reportedly fled the scene.

Bloodied, groaning and covered in deep chop wounds, Hopkinson was assisted out of the police vehicle and into the emergency room. He lost consciousness a few minutes later as doctors battled to stabilize him.

Two deep wounds were visible in Hopkinson’s head and both of his legs were badly wounded. The jersey he wore was blood soaked from the injuries he suffered in his head.

Stabroek News was told that Hopkinson sells music CDs at Stabroek market and was plying his trade when the incident occurred sometime before 9 am.

“Is an old grievance cause this, he and de man had problems”, a man who accompanied Hopkinson to the hospital related.

The man was unable to say where Hopkinson resides, but he noted that news of the attack had already reached his family.
