At the company’s head office at New Diamond, East Bank Demerara, GCA President Alfred Mentore in his brief comments said that it was a good day in the life of the GCA and for cricket in general in the capital.

He said that GBC, under the Busta brand, has shown its genuine interest in supporting the game locally at “this important learning period or at the grass root level.”

Mentore noted that, “It signals strongly the role they play as good corporate citizens especially in these crucial economic times. This (renewal of sponsorship) speaks volume of their passion, panache, love and their deep understanding of youth and their development.”

He said further, “We owe a debt of gratitude and recognition to the Busta company without whose contribution this tournament could not have been possible. We thank you for being on board for the past two years and look forward for your continued support in the future in order for the GCA to fulfill its mandate.”

Country Manager of GBC Robert Selman stated that the company was pleased to be associated with the development of the youths. He also reassured the GCA that the company will continue to contribute to the sport especially if it means that the youth will refrain from delinquent behaviours.

Selman also congratulated the GCA on the successful staging of the tournament in the first year.

Meanwhile, the 14-team tournament will be played in two zones on a round-robin basis with the two top teams in the zones playing in the semis.

The defending champion in the tournament is Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) who defeated Maltenoes Sports Club (MSC).
