The tickets which are valued at $175,000 will afford the selected children entrance to the Guyana National Stadium on December 28 for the semi-finals.

According to Bakewell’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Naeem Nasir, his company was more than pleased for the second time to afford children the opportunity to witness matches in the tournament.

“In our continued commitment to the development of Sports in Guyana, we are pleased to donate these tickets to the Ministry of Education for distribution to the schools in order enhance their ability to get involved in sport because the develop mind comes from a develop body,” said Nasir.

Receiving the tickets on the ministry’s behalf was Education Officer Marcel Hudson who noted that they were very pleased with Bakewell’s contribution this year.

“We at the Ministry of Education believe in the promotion of sports and the contribution that would have taken place here today would be taking us a far way. We recognise the fact that we believe in balance; academic should also include aspect of physical education and I believe this would send a clear message to our students that we believe in sports and we want to give them the opportunity to participate in sporting activities in what ever way that could be done,” said Hudson.

He added:“We, basically, we would want to target the primary and the secondary schools the older kids there because I think they would be a bit more receptive to these tickets and to be a part of the football competition that is ahead.”

A similar undertaking will be done for schools in Linden and it is intended to spread the initiative to other communities around Guyana.
