A man was killed at Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast on Tuesday night when he fell out of the speeding tractor trailer in which he was travelling.

Police confirmed the death of Wayne Munroe, 31, of Airy Hall, Essequibo Coast, and said the driver of the tractor, who fled the scene, has since been detained.

The accident occurred at 22:00 hours.

Investigations revealed that Munroe was in a trailer attached to a tractor that was “reportedly travelling at a fast rate” when he fell out of the trailer and was run over by the wheels. He was taken to the Suddie Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver of the tractor drove away from the scene but was subsequently arrested. The tractor and trailer were found abandoned in the backdam at Onderneeming. The driver along with the owner of the tractor and trailer are in custody assisting with the investigations, police said.
