A 58-year-old porter died on Wednesday morning after the laden tractor he was on toppled on the Ampa Bay Trail, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) and pinned him underneath.

Dead is Lyton Hendricks of Pomeroon River. The incident occurred around 7.30 hrs.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) in a statement issued yesterday confirmed that the 24-year-old driver of the unregistered tractor has been arrested pending further investigations.

According to the police, reports revealed that the tractor which had a trailer attached was proceeding west on the trail. It was packed with wallaba posts.

Hendricks, the police said was sitting on the posts when the right front wheel of the trailer went into a hole causing it to swing right.

As a result, the trailer toppled and Hendricks was pinned underneath.

With the help of public-spirited persons he was freed and transported to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His body is currently at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
