Young man stabbed following argument

A young man was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday after he was stabbed during a heated argument with another man.

Hamery Alexander of Lot 30 La Grange, West Bank Demerara sustained four stab wounds during the fracas and reports are that he lost a lot of blood. Alexander, age 18 years, was stabbed in his chest and his right arm during the confrontation which broke out on Regent Street close to 5 pm.

Stabroek News was told that Alexander was stabbed over a cap after the man confronted him.  “I hear them arguing about a cap and next thing I know this guy draw a knife and start stabbing,” an eyewitness related yesterday. Alexander denied any knowledge of the cap and his aggressor reportedly got agitated.

Alicia James, a vendor at Regent Street, recalled that the wounded Alexander fell close to her stand and was bleeding profusely. “If you see how dis blood was gushing out he chest,” she recounted. She said that a passer-by stopped and offered assistance and a few minutes later Alexander was rushed to the hospital.

The man who stabbed Alexander is well known in the Regent Street area, according to reports. He is said to have fled the scene after the stabbing.
