According to a Govern-ment Information Agency press release residents voiced concerns about poor drainage and flooding, bad roads, truancy and inadequate agricultural lands during a Cabinet outreach in Region 10. Residents said that during the rainy season they experience flooding as the area’s creek overflows. They also said they are particularly worried about the situation as some of them are farmers.

Westford gave assurances to residents that cleaning of the Kara Kara creek mouth is in progress and that the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority will be looking at boosting the drainage systems in the area. The minister also told residents that they should consider erecting signs limiting the passage of big, heavy vehicles as these contribute to the destruction of roads.

Some residents also said that they were not given the opportunity to work with the Community Development Council’s projects. In response Westford urged them to cooperate and to do self-help projects such as parapet cleaning and land-filling that will benefit them. She also urged the residents to ensure that their children attend school.
