Chinese volunteers honoured for P.E support

The Ministry of Education’s Allied Arts Unit honoured four Chinese volunteers who promoted physical education in Guyana over the past year.

In a press release, the ministry said volunteers Zhang Tao Tao, Hao Da Lei, Ding Jian Wei and Zhang Xiao Bing served at the Bishops’ High School, the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE), Tutorial High School and St John’s College. They were honoured at a simple farewell ceremony hosted in the Allied Arts Unit in the Queen’s College compound on Wednesday.

Minister Shaik Baksh expressed his gratitude to the team for its services in advancing the physical education agenda in schools. Physical Education is offered at the CSEC level in 17 schools and the minister said efforts are being made to expand the programme to more schools. Baksh also appealed to Chinese officials in Guyana to replace the departing team as early as possible, so that the programme can continue and expand on the momentum that has been built.
