Fire ravages room at Rosignol Chinese restaurant

Fire suspected to be electrical in origin reportedly destroyed a room at Cheong Lee Chinese Restaurant at Rosignol, West Bank Berbice around 3 am yesterday.

A source told this newspaper that the fire started from an “electrical point which was overloaded.” The restaurant is owned by couple who gave only their last name – Sue.

They reside in the flat adjoining the restaurant at the back with their two children.

They told this newspaper that items including three desktop computers, two laptops, a freezer and other household articles were destroyed.

Reports are that the couple retired to bed around midnight and were asleep when neighbours saw the blaze and kept shouting “fire! fire!”

When they got up to check they realized that it was coming from the room.

Neighbours assisted in forming a bucket brigade and contained the blaze. They also managed to put out the fire before the fire tenders from the Blairmont Estate and the Onverwagt Fire Service arrived. (Shabna Ullah)
