Dear Editor,

In the March 16th edition of Stabroek News, PNCR Leader Robert Corbin in his comments about the incident involving me and PNCR Region 4 Councillor Maureen Philadelphia, omitted to give a truthful account of the incident. I hope he is clever enough to admit he was misled by those who conveyed the various aspects of the incident.

The truth is, Mr. Corbin, I did make a report of the assault immediately after leaving the RDC office at Triumph on March 15 which was taken by W18996 Fraser at the BV Police Station. However, because time was against me I told the police rank I would be returning later in the afternoon to give my statement on the matter.

I am surprised that Mr. Corbin who prides himself as lawyer, is unaware there is no compulsion for a complainant to gave a statement immediately after an incident. The most critical action in a case where the police is required to intervene in an incident is to file a report which goes into the occurrence book at the station to be followed by statements of the complainant and or witnesses to the particularly incident, immediately or subsequently once given in a timely manner to carry out the necessary investigations.

Secondly, Mr. Corbin’s statement about me leaving the station to attend the birthday party of a Minister of the Government is totally untrue.

Just as how I was able to produce the footage of the incident, Mr. Corbin could produce the footage of my attendance at the party.

Then Regional Chairman Clement Corlette told his untruths by claiming he saw when I assaulted Councillor Philadelphia. Mr. Corlette was not around when the incident between Councillor Philadelphia and I occurred. He was in his office and joined the gathering subsequently.

Yours faithfully,
Kwame Mc Coy
