Attacks show we are all unsafe

Dear Editor,

I write to condemn most vociferously the acid attack on a prominent businessman and sports organizer, the channa bomb attack on the home of a business owner, and the faecal attack on controversial KN columnist Freddie Kissoon. These attacks in three consecutive days are meant to instil fear in us and to get us to change our way of life and thought. We must resist the attackers at all costs and the police should do everything possible to find the attackers.

These attacks are most disgusting and do not belong among civilized people. The acid attack on Pretipaul Jaigobin and the firebombing of Navin Ali’s home are insults to decent minded people and a civilized society.

And nothing can justify throwing faeces at someone regardless of one’s hatred for him or her. While I do not agree with most of Mr Kissoon’s views on issues or his interpretations of social and political theorists, I strongly feel he has a right to pen his views for public consumption. There are ways to express disagreement with Kissoon regardless of how much he is an irritant to others.

I also use this opportunity to call on Freddie not to attack others unjustifiably without credible evidence.

The attacks show we are all unsafe.  These violent and notorious criminal acts must be stopped. It is an outright affront to decency. We must, therefore, as citizens, government officials, and opposition representatives come together to resist those hell bent on creating fear and terror in our midst. Government needs to crack down on criminals who are running loose and other fringe elements who seek to disrupt normal lives for political ends.

Yours faithfully,
Vishnu Bisram
