Hing, Da Silva share honours at handgun event

Dale Hing and Dr. Johan DaSilva shared the honours when the Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) Small-bore Section held its two-day handgun shooting championship recently at the Tactical Services Unit (TSC) and Timehri Ranges.

The event, held to kick off the 2010 season saw Dr. Da Silva, with 169 points, staving off a strong challenge from 20 other shooters to win the .22 precision pistol competition at the TSU range at Eve Leary.

Ian Rogers silenced the more seasoned campaigners to claim second position with 168 points while third position was taken by Hing who recorded 166 points.

Officials of the club stated that shooting at TSU range has improved significantly since the collaboration between the TSU and the Guyana NRA has garnered the help of vice-captain (Small Bore) Mohamed Qualander to rehabilitate the Range with additional lighting, extractor fans and painting.

The excitement and enthusiasm spilled over into the second day when 16 shooters competed in a two-stage IPSC competition at the Timehri Ranges and despite the blistering heat; there were some dizzying performances by all members.

Hing emerged the winner with 201 points while Ryan McKinnon was second with 198 points and James Singh third with 190 points.

The next major event for Small-bore shooters will be a Paintball Fun Day at the YMCA building on March 28 starting at 10:30am.

Several teams will battle for top honours in the event as officials continue their drive to popularise Paintball shooting in Guyana.
