Narayan earns second consecutive Haier prize

Former national under-19 all-rounder Danney Narayan was yesterday presented with his second consecutive Haier prize for his exceptional performance in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Second-Division 40-over cricket competition.

A member of the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) cricket team, Narayan’s two catches and a run out in addition to exploiting his batting skills and scoring 119 earned him the best player title.

The right-handed batsman’s accomplishments were achieved in the third round when MSC played against Gandhi Youth Organisation yesterday. And for his feat, Valu-Maxx Appliances Store of Regent Road and Oronoque Street, a branch of Queensway on Water Street, presented him with a Haier DVD player.

President of the GCA Roger Harper expressed his gratitude to Valu-Maxx Manager Richard Jardine for the business’s tangible support and said he hoped the venture by the home appliance entity proved to be motivational.

Harper, a former West Indies player, opined that the initiative could serve as an incentive for high-quality performances, noting that Haier is an international brand.

Narayan won his first Haier prize in the second round of the competition earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Jardine conveyed his company’s joy at sponsoring the competition, which will run for seven rounds. He noted that based on their performances, players can be in for a treat at the conclusion of every game. The GCA has a points system which is used to determine the Most Valuable Player.

The competition continues tomorrow.
