Monedderlust needles Cougars to enter semis

Monedderlust defeated Cougars Football Club in the first of two quarterfinal matches to claim the third semifinal spot in the third annual Cheddi and Janet Jagan Memorial knockout tournament on Sunday.

The Berbice Football Association (BFA) organized tournament at the Blairmont Community Centre Ground saw Monedderlust scoring in the first half then defending their goal to the regulation time whistle.

A penalty kick scored by Alwin McDonald in the 28 minute was enough to secure a spot in the semi-final.

After the goal, Cougars threw everything into attack but Monedderlust was robust in defence and was able to prevent the rampaging Winston Benjamin and Horace Roache from doing any damage.

Meanwhile, a number of counter attacks from the eventual victors kept the Cougars defense and custodian Ryan Kellowan on their toes.

The tournament continues this Sunday with Ann’s Grove meeting Rosignol United to battle for the last semi-final spot.
