Digicel sets sights on Mash ‘royalty’

Digicel launched its 2011 Costume and Mash band on Friday, while promising to bring “royalty” to the streets.

At the launch at the company’s Barrack Street, Kingston headquarters, Digicel’s Sponsorship and Events Manager Gavin Hope explained that the royalty was a natural choice for the theme of this year’s band, since the company treats all its customers like royalty. He noted that the dominant colour of the costumes is purple, which is associated with royalty. “Last year we were victorious in four categories and second in one. This year we’re going for everything,” Hope said.

The costumes are designed by fashion designer Olympia Small-Sonaram. “There’s something for everyone, even our more conservative folks,” Digicel Public Relations and Events Manager Shonnet Moore said. The costumes displayed at the launch incorporated purple, gold and red, but it was explained that all of the costumes were not showcased as the company wanted to retain some suspense as to what it had to offer.

Costumes will not be on sale but subscribers will have a chance to win them. In addition to attending Digicel’s Mash Fit Sessions to discover how costumes can be won, Moore said persons can also tune in to programmes hosted by Kester D and Mondale Smith for updates.
