Brazilian national accused of forging work permit

Magistrate Sueanna Lovell yesterday remanded a Brazilian national when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer to the charge of uttering a forged document and conspiracy to commit a felony.

The allegation is that on November 30, at Ogle International Airport the accused Nadir Perez Quaresma uttered a Brazilian passport with a forged Guyana extension work permit stamp to an immigration officer. The 39-year-old miner was not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to him in court.

Prosecutor Jairam Luckhai told the court that on the said day, the Brazilian was travelling to Lethem and presented the document to the immigration officer who discovered that the work permit stamp in the passport was false. The matter was immediately reported and Perez Quaresma was taken to police headquarters at Eve Leary where he was later charged. The prosecutor objected to bail.

The accused was ordered to return to court on December 12.
