It grieves me to behold what Kitty has become

Dear Editor,

I was born and bred in Kitty Village, now a part of Georgetown. It grieves me to behold what Kitty has become. I can vividly remember as a child being anxious to see the roller and tar truck come through the street to repair the pot holes before they became craters. I recall the weeding gang with their cutlasses, sticks and hoes, yes hoes to dig the sides of the roads to allow water to run into the drains. Now we have water accumulating on the streets to drown the users.  How can I forget the street sweepers?  They swept very often with their pointer brooms.  Where have they gone in Kitty?

Shell Road, Thomas St, Pike St and Gordon St are some that have clogged and narrowed drains. We, the residents in Kitty deserve better. Along the main street, bridges are blocking drains and prohibit the free flow of water. The Mayor is always talking of clearing the outflows but if the “inflows” are not cleared how can the outflows get the water. The street lights are few and burn 24/7. What about many, and switching them on at 18:00hrs and switching them off at 06:00hrs

The Kitty Market was one of the busiest and biggest on Saturdays now it has been “killed”.  I now long for and dream of clean streets, free from potholes and well-lit.  Can you make my dream a reality Mr Mayor? I thank you in advance.

Yours faithfully,
