The Ministry of Public Works yesterday began breaking concrete bridges along Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, Georgetown, from Vlissen-gen Road to Middleton Street to improve drainage in the area.

According to the Ministry, the concrete bridges that were built by the residents were blocking the flow of water in the drains, and as a result a section of the street kept flooding.

In a telephone interview with Stabroek News, Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, explained that Sandy Babb Street has been in a deplorable condition for quite some time and the concrete bridges were stopping the flow of water in the drains. Edghill added that in order for the street to be fixed the drains need to be cleared so that the water would flow off. Notices were given to the residents about the ongoing operation. “The street cannot be fixed when it is flooded, as soon as the water is off the street we will be able to fix it,” the Minister said.
