A 23-year-old father of three was allegedly stabbed to death by his reputed wife at their, Block 8 Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, home around 6 am yesterday after an argument.

Sam Lall was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Hospital. He was stabbed to the left side of his chest with a kitchen knife.  Lall was rushed by his wife in a taxi to the main public road after which he was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.  His wife is currently in police custody assisting with the investigations. The knife, which is about six inches in length, was also recovered from the scene.

Lall, who was a fisherman, was the father of three girls, ranging in age from two to five. His family stated that he was constantly abused by his wife for the past six years they have lived together.  They also added that his wife took advantage over him because one of his hands was not properly formed so he could not use it to its full capacity. No reports were ever made to the police about the alleged abuse.

Lall had also reportedly moved out of the couple’s home on numerous occasions, but was persuaded to return by his wife who would go looking for him, his relatives stated.

At his family’s home yesterday, relatives gathered to comfort his grieving mother. They stated that they were informed of the incident around 7 am when a neighbour called and told them that Lall’s wife called and reported the matter.

His mother, Sheila Lall, said that when she got the news she rushed to her son’s home but was told by neighbours that he had gone to the hospital.  The mother said that her son had slept the night before at his aunt’s house and had returned home the following morning to collect his bag to go to work. It was when he went back to the house an argument ensued. It was then the murder occurred.

The grieving woman also said “me son seh he nah want am back but she a come steady and beg am…she a smoke cigarette and drink rum…one day she beat am with one pot and bend a pot pon he head… when me son come he buy gas stove, phone and bicycle just fuh leh she nah walk…”

A neighbour living next door to the couple’s home said she was in her home when she heard screams coming from the house next door. She added “me just open the window and me see she (the wife) pun de road and she ran inside so when I watch me see the man outside on the platform…then I see a taxi come and they put him in.”

In highlighting the abusive relationship Lall shared with the woman, his family noted that the woman had came to his mother’s house and burnt all of his clothes and part of the house.  His wife would also beat him in front of his friends.

His brother, Mithum Lall, said ‘’the night before he went here and he drink and he go home the morning to go to sea…so like he throw back” and she attack him.  The man leaves to mourn his three kids, mother, father and his siblings.
