St. Ignatius Secondary yesterday hammered Aishalton Secondary 7-0 to be declared Region Nine champions in the countrywide Digicel Schools football championships currently underway.

Playing at the St. Ignatius Centre Ground, St Ignatius were led by a beaver trick from Mark Joseph and a hat-trick from Seon Kortright.

Joseph scored his goals in the 15th, 53rd, 60th and 67th minutes while Kortright netted in the seventh, 18th and 87th minutes. St Ignatius will face Region Three champions Bush Lot Secondary today in the champion of champions contest at the St Ignatius Community Centre ground.

Former St. Ignatius player now Coach Terrence Parks said that while he expected his team win the match the team exceeded his expectations.

“All of them did well especially the strikers but I hope they perform better tomorrow (today). I know that I have to do more work on the defense,” he said. Asked if he will have his defense problems fixed by today, Parks said yes.

He also said that despite him not being able to see Region Three champions in action he was confident that his team will get the better of them.

Parks said he will not be making any changes to his team as he prefers to play with his current team.

Noel August, Coach of the Region Three team said that based on what he has seen his team will come out on top.
“I am confident that we will defeat them because they are not as skillful as we are. We have our strategy planned out and we will execute it,” he added. August said that he was not worried that St. Ignatius may have home court advantage as his team did not come all the way to Region 9 to return as losers.
