Mechanic threatened to chop, shoot man, court hears

A mechanic was remanded to prison yesterday on a charge that he threatened to chop and shoot another man.

Martin Ramdeen, 27, of 24 D’urban Street, Lodge, pleaded not guilty to the threatening language charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that on June 1, at Georgetown, Ramdeen made use of threatening language to Ramchand Mugaroa, resulting in a breach of the peace.

Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt told the court that Ramdeen threatened to chop and shoot the virtual complainant, who was absent at the hearing.

Ramdeen, unrepresented by counsel, applied for bail and the prosecution did not object.

When asked by the court if he had previous convictions, Ramdeen reported that about a year ago, he was convicted for a threatening language offence also, for which he was ordered to pay a $20,000 fine.

The Magistrate then announced to Ramdeen that bail would be denied and he would be remanded to prison.

His next court appearance will be on June 12.
