Wisburg Secondary upset four-time champions MHS

A game-high 20 points from Taquille Johnson enabled Wisburg Secondary School to defeat four-time champions Mackenzie High School 55-21 when the  Linden Secondary Schools U-19 basketball championships continued at the Mackenzie Hard Court last Thursday.

Johnson was supported by teammates Aubrey Campbell and Akeem Powers who scored 10 and nine points respectively for the winners, who led at half time 24-12.

Daniel Anthony topscored for Mackenzie High with 11 points with Qoo-Sa-Phan Headley adding eight.

In the second fixture Linden Foundation Secondary powered by a Vibert Benjamin 18-point haul defeated defending champions Linden Technical Institute 47-39. The defending champions’ top scorers were Marlon Alexander with 14 and Gavin Gasper with 13 points.

On Friday the matches had to be rescheduled due to rain. When play was stopped with just over seven minutes left in the first half the two unbeaten teams Wisburg Secondary and Christianburg/Wismar Secondary Schools were locked at 21 points each.

The game will continue today at the same venue while the second game will pit New Silvercity Secondary against Mackenzie High.

The scheduled matches for today are New Silvercity Secondary against Linden Foundation Secondary at 2.30pm and the other at 4.00pm pits Mackenzie High against Linden Technical Institute at the same venue.
