Man to be charged over Hague murder

A murder charge will be brought against the man suspected to have fatally stabbed his girlfriend Rajkumarie Persaud, at their Hague home on Sunday.

Persaud also known as “Ashti,” 24, of Lot 64 Hague Backdam, West Coast Demerara, was pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Regional Hospital on Sunday after relatives found her on the floor in her apartment, in a pool of blood.

The boyfriend known as “Amit,” a dental technician, will be charged as soon as he is released from the hospital, according to a police source. The source also confirmed that the man is in a stable condition and is said to be on the road to recovery.

According to a cousin of Persaud, “It was a little after 10 [am] my mother hear a scream and she know from the scream something happened to Ashti so she run downstairs and same time see Amit running out the house to the back…when she went into the house Ashti deh in a pool a blood.” Persaud was then rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

That cousin further stated that the alleged perpetrator seemed to have been under the influence of alcohol just before the murder took place. Additionally, relative mentioned that the couple was not known to have arguments.
