Kitty gets the better of Grove 3-2

Kitty overcame East Bank of Demerara unit Grove 3-2 when the first annual Grassroots Foundation inter-ward knockout football tournament continued on Sunday at the Tucville Community Centre ground.

Falling behind to a Shermon Doris 25th minute penalty conversion, Kitty would level the score line in the 52nd minute of the second period through a Deron Bowen strike.

Racing into the left side of the penalty area, Bowen in a one-on-one situation placed his right footed strike beyond the reach of the advancing custodian into the lower right hand corner of the woodwork.

Kitty would eventually take the lead eight minutes later compliments of a back pass that went  inadvertently through the legs of the onrushing Grove keeper, resulting in a own goal.

Anthony Sancho would then increase Kitty’s lead in the 80th minute through a well placed header into the back of the net from within the centre of the 18 yard box, following a right sided corner kick.

The East Bank side would manage to reduce the deficit to one in the dying minutes as Domini Garnett netted with a right footed attempt from inside the right side of the area, which struck the leg of the custodian and rolled into the lower right hand corner.
