U-15 cycling champ passed over for Caribbean Championships

National under-15 cyclist Romello Crawford is utterly disappointed at being overlooked for the upcoming Junior Caribbean Championships which he said occurred because inaccurate information was relayed to the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF).

As the current U15 cycling champion, he said that he should have been selected to the team and believes that he was bypassed because he had been engaged in a two-month training stint in Trinidad and Tobago during the July/August period. “I’m disappointed very badly,” the New Amsterdam Trojan cycle club member said about having to miss the Championships set for October 4 and 5 in Suriname.

Crawford represented Guyana on two occasions; in the Trinidad Easter Grand Prix held this year and in last year’s Caribbean Champions. He said that he expected that someone from the GCF would have contacted him to verify his availability for the upcoming event but believed that the federation received inaccurate information that he was not expected to be back in Guyana until December.

Crawford further pointed out that he is available for selection and is requesting that the cycling body reconsider their team selection policy and allow him to represent Guyana at the meet. The young champion said he will continue to “keep on riding and training” regardless of the outcome of his likely appeal.
