Guyana’s premier muscleman, Kerwin ‘Chisel’ Clarke is hoping that this is the year he stands atop the podium at the CAC Amateur Bodybuilding Championships.

The reigning Mr. Guyana has been a consistent performer at the prestigious annual fixture, posing and flexing his way to bronze medals at the last two championships but standing on the top podium spot and hearing the national anthem play has been elusive.

Clarke is hoping for better results at the 42nd edition in St. Maarten from October 3-4.

“I place at the CAC every year but I feel this year I really have a chance of doing well and grabbing the gold,” Clarke told Stabroek Sport yesterday.

“My confidence is very high despite battling the flu during the course of preparation.”  So why does Clarke think that the third time may be the charm?

“I will be more shredded and detailed as opposed to going thicker route like I was last year. This year I would definitely be putting together a sharper presentation and bringing my A game.”

The Buddy’s Gym product who would be competing in the welterweight division added that he is still aiming for a pro card at the event but “it depends on the day in question.”

Since bursting onto the bodybuilding scene in 2011, the 27-year old has dominated the local stage, the bodybuilding fraternity would be hoping he does the same when he takes his chiseled, award winning physique to Dutch and French speaking island.

Notes: Clarke’s airfare was sponsored by Fitness Express. Along with Clarke, Guyana will be represented by US based Bruce Whatley, former Mr. Guyana Devon Davis, Caerus Cipriani and Alisha Fortune. (Emmerson Campbell)
