According to Technical Director of the GBA, Terrence Poole, the scheduled two-day event is an important component in the development of the country’s boxers.

“It is very important as they get to wet their feet in a structured tournament setting” Poole said yesterday. “This is their launching pad and this is where we spot potential from.”

Poole also told this publication that in excess of 25 bouts will be staged during the annual fixture which was postponed last weekend due to inclement weather.

The postponement essentially gave the Simon Pures some more time to train and Poole envisions an eventful championships which will be held under floodlights.

Several gyms namely last year’s champions Republican, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Forgotten Youth Foundation, Young Achievers, the New Opportunity Corps, Pocket Rocket and other will take part in the event.

Bell Time is 19:00hrs nightly.
