The semifinal round of the Milo Secondary Schools Football Championship will commence today at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue.

In the opening match, Chase Academy will lock horns with President’s College at 16:30 hrs. Chase Academy sealed their berth in the final four segments with a 5-0 thumping of Bartica in the quarterfinal section.

On the other hand, President’s College sealed their unexpected berth in the semifinal round following a 3-1 victory over East Ruimveldt in the previous round.

Meanwhile, Dolphin Secondary will lock horns with Waramuri of Region #1 in the second semifinal fixture at 18:30 hrs. Waramuri’s semifinal place was sealed following a 3-0 quarterfinal win over Anns Grove, while Dolphin progressed from the quarterfinal section owing to a 1-0 victory against West Ruimveldt.

Troy Mendonca, Co-Director of the Petra Organisation, said during a pre-match comment, “Everyone expects and anticipates that Chase Academy should win their game against PC, but I think everyone might be in for a surprise QC. In the other game, we also anticipate a good semifinal between Dolphin and Waramuri. I think both teams stand a chance of winning. I know that Waramuri has invested a lot in their programme, and they will give it a good shot. I also know that Dolphin wants to follow in the footsteps of Carmel and win a tournament, so we anticipate a very good final; it is very unpredictable.”

He further said, “I am very happy about the quality of the game but also the professionalism of the teams. Credit must be given to the Ministry of Education for the programme of acquiring head coaches and paying for their services. Overall, it’s a great initiative and has manifested in how the teams approach the game.”

The winners of this year’s tournament will receive $300,000, while the runners-up will pocket $150,000, and third place will settle for $75,000.

On the individual side, there will be accolades for the Most Valuable Player (MVP), highest goal scorer, and best goalkeeper.
