A Buxton mother died last evening at the Georgetown Public Hospital after she was hit by a car at the junction of Lamaha and Oronoque streets in Georgetown.
She has been identified as Nerisa Spencer, 35, of Buxton, East Coast Demerara.
Stabroek News was told that Spencer was on her way to an aerobics class that she would normally teach when she was hit.
This newspaper was told that as Spencer, a mother of two, was walking along the roadway, a car bearing licence plate PTT 9623 was approaching at a fast rate heading east and it struck her. As a result of the impact, Spencer was pitched into the air and landed in a yard. The driver of the vehicle reportedly lost control and came into contact with two other vehicles, PTT 668 and PSS 8220, before the vehicle toppled.
Residents from the area rushed out of their homes and offered assistance to Spencer, who was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital, where she succumbed while receiving treatment.
As the news of her demise spread, family members arrived at the hospital, where many burst into tears. Many were also left in shock.
The driver of the vehicle that hit Spencer managed to free himself and went to the Georgetown Public Hospital for medical attention. He remained a patient there up to press time.
The drivers of the other vehicles did not sustain any major injury. Their vehicles were, however, partially damaged.
