Queen’s College annual Inter-House c/ships at Bourda tomorrow

The annual Inter House track and field championships of Queen’s College will take place tomorrow from 9 am at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda because of the unavailability of the school’s ground.

According to a press release, the decision to stage the championships at Bourda was taken by the school’s Board of Governors and its administration.

The traditional march past, led by the Guyana Police Force band will take place, the release stated.

“Regrettably, we are unable to use our own ground owing to the fact that it has been, for some time now, in a state of disrepair resulting in it not being safe for the holding of our athletics championships,” stated the release, adding that the inclement weather too has played a part.

“Due to the inclement weather leading up to this period and the poor drainage system the ground remains waterlogged.

To date, we have been able to cut one third of the ground, nonetheless, the problem persists,” the release added.

According to the release, the school was considering rehabilitating the ground.

“Recently, two engineers were consulted and they recommended that the ground be completely rehabilitated. Feasibility studies were conducted and an estimate was submitted.  Phase One of this project is estimated at $20M and includes drainage, removal of excessive soil from the banks of the drainage area, ploughing, land filling, chipping, rolling and the replanting of lawn grass.”

The release stated that the school was seeking support to complete the rehabilitation project.
