Suspect charged over Moruca murder

Simon James, the suspect in the fatal stabbing of a man at Moruca on Sunday, was yesterday remanded to prison after being read a charge of murder by a city magistrate.

James was read a charge that alleged that he, on January 15, at Moruca, North West District, murdered Robert Ferreira, called ‘Bobby.’

James was not required to enter a plea to the charge when he appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman.

The defendant was remanded to prison by Magistrate Latchman and is expected to make his next court appearance on January 23 before the Chief Magistrate.

Ferreira and his alleged assailant were drinking at a shop when an argument ensued between the two. Subsequent to the argument, Ferreira left the area and it was while he was heading home that he was stabbed.
