The owner of R. Bacchus and Sons Trucking Services succumbed early yesterday morning to the injuries he received when he was hit by a speeding ‘army style’ vehicle last Thursday.
Rafi Bacchus, 67, of Fourth Street, Surbryanville was on a life support machine after he underwent emergency surgery to remove blood clots from his brain. He was a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Bacchus was knocked off his bicycle by the vehicle, which had no door, on Thursday morning at the Sheriff Street and Railway Embankment junction. He was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital in an unconscious state and remained that way up until the time of his death.
A CAT scan done several hours after the accident revealed that he had two cracks to his skull and blood clots in the brain. Bacchus also sustained bruises to his hands and legs
Reports are that the driver of the vehicle had just come out of the gas station at the corner of Sheriff Street and David Street and was turning to go over to the railway embankment road. Bacchus who was riding along Sheriff Street was just about to cross the embankment when he was hit.
