‘Jumbo’, teen on armed robbery charge

Two men who appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court on Monday to answer a charge of robbery under arms were granted their pre-trial liberty in the sum of $100,000 by Magistrate Chandra Sohan.

The court heard that on January 11, at Portuguese Quarters, Port Mourant, Jermaine Barclay, 18, called ‘Jumbo’ a hire car driver of Lot 43 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam and Anthony Campbell, 17, of Lot 45 Stanleytown reportedly robbed Sewpersaud Rambhajan.

They carted off a quantity of articles valued $189,560 including colognes valued $79,400, 13 wristwatches worth $20,200, 12 fun cameras valued $10,200, 24 wallets costing $7,800 and one zipper binder worth $2,800.

In his application for reasonable bail for Campbell, attorney-at-law Mursaline Bacchus submitted that his client was injured while in custody. He said Campbell had to be admitted to hospital and an x-ray was done.

But Police Prosecutor Assistant Superintendent Davis asked for bail to be substantial because of the prevalence of the offence.
