A Kitty youth was on Friday freed of one of three robbery charges he was faced with after one of his accusers told a city court that she wishes to discontinue the matter.

Shaquille Mentore, who had been remanded on the charges, was freed of the charge which states that on July 13, 2021, at Stabroek, Georgetown, he stole a gold chain, valued $64,000, and two gold rings, valued $30,000, from Cindy Lyttle.

He appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where Lyttle told Magistrate Dylon Bess that she wished to discontinue the proceedings due to how time consuming court attendance had become. She explained that it was taking away from her time at work and as a result she wanted to be done with the matter.

The magistrate considered her request and then discontinued the charge. However, Mentore still has two remaining matters before the court. He has denied that on July 3, 2021, at Stabroek, Georgetown, he stole a gold chain, valued $120,000, and a cell phone, valued $73,000, from Shenola Gittens. He also denies that on July 13, 2021, at Longden Street, he a gold chain, valued at $100,000 and a gold and diamond pendant, valued at $100,000, from Tavia Bookie.

Mentore was fined $70,000 last year by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after he admitted to stealing a woman’s bag. He had pleaded guilty to the charge, which stated that on February 18, 2020, at Duncan Street, George-town, he stole a bag containing articles valued at $49,240, which was the property of Louisiana Campbell.

This newspaper has also reported that in January of 2019, Mentore was sentenced by acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus for the theft of a phone, valued $140,000, from Nicholas Gangaram. He had said he stole the phone because he needed money to buy a bicycle.
